SHOW OF FORCE - SPARRING

Welcome to the world of MooseMan and wildlife photography

A dream come true: capturing wildlife

Hi everyone! This is MooseMan (yes, I now go by the name of Libby Libbey), and I'm delighted to welcome you to our world of wildlife photography.

Our passion is to help you discover wildlife as we experience it, spending hours with extraordinary animals to capture their most authentic moments.

It's a lifelong dream: to share the stories of these majestic creatures with you through photos and videos.

Diving into the heart of the rut: sparring among moose

The second stage of the fights: between caution and learning

Imagine two bulls in full transition: one has not yet finished shedding its velvet, while the other proudly displays its new, well-cleaned antlers, ready to test its strength.

However, the first is not quite in the mood to face this more enthusiastic rival and clearly signals his desire to stall.

But time passes and, as they say, when the velvet falls, the serious stuff begins!

Sparring: a school of mastery for moose

Sparring is a bit like a Tai Chi session for moose.

They learn their fighting techniques without trying to hurt each other. Even the biggest bulls know when to stop before things get out of hand.

The younger ones, on the other hand, sometimes find it difficult to stop and can end up fighting for real, due to lack of experience.

For us photographers, filming these training sessions is both captivating and reassuring.

Real risks but necessary for learning

Of course, the moose can break an antler by accident, because it all comes down to twisting force, but that's part of their learning process.

Each encounter allows them to strengthen themselves, refine their movements and understand their limits.

A fascinating social dynamic among the bulls

The role of mentors: fights full of wisdom

It often happens that a wiser older bull lets a younger one come and β€œtest” his antlers, a bit like a mentor offering his know-how.

It is fascinating to see this balance between firmness and indulgence: the youngster can push, but as soon as he oversteps the mark, he is put in his place.

Collective sparring: learning in a group

During sparring, it can also happen that several bulls get involved at the same time, circling around each other to take part in this collective training.

Everyone wants to have their turn, and everyone learns from each other.
